Sanya grabs Eila during Sweet Duet. For just a moment, their hands disconnected, as if to signify the silence of the duet that played in the background. They began to drift apart… But no, Sanya took hold of Eila’s hand, and the Sweet Duet returned in full force. They would go to the ends of the Earth with each other.
Bang. I know some people associate that word more with another Sunrise show, but to me, it’s the final second of Code Geass. The trio of Lelouche, Suzaku, and Kallen had gathered together, 2 with guns pointed at each other, and 1 shot fired that could end it all. But we weren’t shown what happened. We were shown Nunnally, the one innocent in this show, the one person for whom Lelouche had decided to sacrifice the world. Who really shot at whom, and did it hit? Who cares when everything that mattered came together so perfectly?
Lark’s smile. Following that moment of realization when we learn exactly when this show took place, and who Lark was waiting for. That alone would be enough, but then Lark has to show that brilliant smile, revealing her still-chipped tooth. The climax happened only a few minutes ago, but it comes flooding back like a fond old memory, mixed with memories of the first series.
When I think back on some anime, there are moments that define my memory of them. I like to think of them as “perfect moments,” when everything comes together to form something greater than the sum. These moments are fleeting, lasting 1, maybe 2 seconds at most. This is part of a series of posts dedicated to such moments.
“But Araragi-san, what kind of work do you plan on doing when you grow up?”- Mayoi Hachikuji and Koyomi Araragi from Nisemonogatari “Karen Bee” Chapter 16
“Fortunately, I haven’t thought that far ahead…”
“That’s what makes you like a child.”
“…”
Hm, maybe this might work.
“I wonder if I could get a job holding up Hanekawa’s breasts so that they don’t fall?”
“What are you saying with a straight face, Araragi-kun?”
“Of course, someone had to go and invent the bra… I don’t know how much money that guy made off that, but thanks to him, I’m out of a job!”
Akari is waiting for Takaki at the train station.
For the last 20 or so minutes, we watched everything go wrong for Takaki, the weather causing countless delays and even making him lose his letter. When he finally arrived at the station, hours and hours late, we were wondering, just as he, would Akari still be waiting for him? Would she have stuck out through those hours and the cold, just for him?
And there she was. Of course she was. We were foolish even to question her faith. The very idea that she might have given up shouldn’t have even crossed our minds. She would be there for him. The emotional peak of this movie came far too soon.
“Jintan, I really like you. The way I like you is the I-Want-To-Marry-You way of liking you.”
Maybe it’s cheating to put 2 moments from the same show, with the same music no less. I don’t even think this is a very good show. But damn it, this was the perfect culmination of all the emotions building up throughout the series.
I don’t know everything, I just know what I know.
The phrase she refuses to say to anyone other than Koyomi in the BD commentaries. Which would mean only in the final episode when Koyomi made his first appearance.
